A seasoned musician based in Cleveland, OH, Thor Platter blends the sounds of folk, rock, country and bluegrass into a fresh mid-west Alt. Country sound for the discerning ear.
Growing up in Western New York, the influences of blues, jazz, country, rock and folk-style singer-songwriters had a profound effect on his musical direction.
Thor took to music at a young age. After several bands in his high school years, Thor joined THE FATBACKS, a high energy Blues/Rock band that played regular gigs in premier clubs and bars around New York State. The Fatbacks’ debut EP Sampler, was released in early 2006 to rave revues. Thor followed up with a solo acoustic EP entitled The Orange Attic Sessions. After moving to Cleveland, OH in 2008, Thor formed the bluegrass/Americana group THE WHISKEY LOCK. Their 2012 EP FLIGHT includes an eclectic mix of original songs. This band took the Cleveland, OH music scene by storm. The Whiskey Lock is now on hiatus so Thor has created a new Bluegrass Project to fill the gaps in the Cleveland new-grass scene. "The Bluegrass Platter" is currently playing local Cleveland gigs, and will be announcing 2014 festival dates soon.
Thor also maintains a busy solo, duo and full band schedule. He continues to perform and book shows at festivals, bars and live music venues throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and Florida.
It is no surprise that Thor was listed in Cleveland Scene magazine’s “13 musicians to watch in 2013”. He was also asked to be a guest multiple times on the Live on lakeside show on WKYC-TV Channel 3 NBC Cleveland. The full length recording Looking For Sunshine was released in April of 2013 to critical acclaim. Stay tuned for tour info and news about the next record!
